(THE EVANESCENCE)

“Perhaps a creature of so much ingenuity and deep memory is almost bound to grow alienated from his world, his fellows, and the objects around him. He suffers from a nostalgia for which there is no remedy upon earth except as it is found in the enlightenment of the spirit - some ability to have a perceptive rather than an exploitive relationship with his fellow creatures.”

                                                                                                                 Loren Eiseley

EULOGY, THE EXTINCTION PROJECT is an examination of human influence and impact on the natural world; in particular, how we have changed the course and affected the survival of the animal species on the earth. The Project documents all known extinct animal species to date and is an ongoing effort. Information is divided by region and time period.

This is a long term project, informed and nuanced by various authors, scientists, poets, anthropologists and historians. The Project is as much about the acquisition of knowledge as it is the revelation of information.

As the human population has grown and evolved we have exerted a singular dominance over the natural world. This Project attempts to illuminate the past in order to facilitate a higher regard for all species and to better understand the function of each in the maintenance of Nature's equilibrium.
